Are they telling you lies?

When you come in contact with a business prospective, how can you discern if this is [pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”30%”][/pullquote]someone you want to do future business with? Are they telling you lies? They may be saying one thing and end up doing totally the opposite. How can you discernĀ  the truths before you spend your valuable time recruiting and training?

Lets talk about your brain here for a minute. I won’t go into a lot of detail here, but the brain is divided into two hemispheres. The left side is associated with logic and the right creativity. When you are talking to your prospect and asking questions, are they looking unconsciously more to the upper right or left? Or are the fixated on you as if they are staring? These are some signs to look for.

If they are quickly looking up to the left before they answer, it may mean they may give you a rational answer. The opposite way may mean they are thinking up something to say. Either way, their answers may not be sincere or truthful. If they are fixated on you, not acting robotic and staying within a given range, chances are they may actually be interested in what you are saying. Beware that some people may be masters at tricking you.

The only sure way to know, is through time. Time tells all and a fake person will unconsciously reveal himself. So it may take more than just one meeting. Over time, you can look at their actions and the total nature of how they conduct themselves. You will be able to tell if they will be a good partner or someone you want to invest with.

Even while dating a person, look at how one acts throughout the course of your relationship. If their actions and responses are all over the place, something is definitely wrong and you may want to steer clear of this type of person.

Another good tip is that people are good at consciously lying but fail at the unconscious aspect. Pay attentionĀ to the words they speak and how they speak them. Are they speaking in a negatively or positively?

The bottom line is look, listen, be aware and observe. If you do not have a lot of time or you are on the phone with a prospect, hone into your listening skills. Is the tone of their voice friendly? Are they pausing a lot or are they precise? And again, are they speaking positively or negatively?

You want people in your circle who are truthful and ethical. You don’t need a business partner who is trying to betray or take money from you. It’s just not good for your business. So, I can’t stress it enough, take the time to be aware. Look, listen and watch. Develop your skills on awareness. In any given situation, time is the ultimate factor!
